The alignment of intended learning outcomes for chemistry graduates and the actualised outcomes has been called into question recently. This article provides an overview of three literature-based chemistry education approaches to address this: authentic research experiences, engaging students in citizen science projects, and curriculum reform aligned with systems thinking frameworks.

A diamine monomer containing an ether group can reduce the friction coefficient and improve the wear performance of PAI material, and the wear mechanism of the PAI material can also change due to ether linkages.
CH21140The Synthesis, Structural Characterisation, and Chemoselective Manipulation of Certain Functionalised Cyclic Sulfates Derived from Chiral, Non-Racemic, and Polysubstituted Bicyclo[2.2.2]octane-2,3-diols
Enantiomerically enriched or homochiral cis-1,2-dihydrocatechols such as 10 have been elaborated via their Diels–Alder adducts (e.g. 20) and then the corresponding sulfites (e.g. 21 and 22) into the title compounds 23.
CH21137Tandem Oxidation-Dehydrogenation of (Hetero)Arylated Primary Alcohols via Perruthenate Catalysis
A novel method is described, using perruthenate salts, for performing the rarely reported dehydrogenation of primary alcohols to afford unsaturated aldehydes in low to moderate yields. The discovery, method development, reaction scope, and associated challenges of this method are presented in detail.
CH21122Theoretical Determination of pKas of P(1)-H Phospholes and their Comparison with N(1)-H Azoles
In this article, the pKas of seven phospholes were determined theoretically. The major challenge in their determination is that the experimental pKas of all the seven phospholes are not reported in the literature. We are the first ones to endeavour to calculate their pKas.
We developed a simple and selective fluorescent aptasensor for the detection of oxytetracycline (OTC) using aptamer-conjugated gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and a complex formed between oxytetracycline and a europium cation. In this study, AuNPs were modified with an OTC aptamer using two methods (Tween and NaCl methods).
A new Cs-γ-CD-MOF material was synthesised by an improved gas vapour diffusion method. The adsorption capacity of γ-CD (142.92 mg g−1) and Cs-γ-CD-MOFs (280.05 mg g−1) for myricetin was compared. The energy and conformation of the adsorption of myricetin on Cs-γ-CD-MOFs were obtained by molecular docking.
CH21120Temperature Replica Exchange Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Cyclic Peptide Conformation
Cyclic peptides have pharmaceutical, materials chemistry, and agricultural applications. Structure–function relationships are essential to understanding cyclic peptide activity and developing novel, functional cyclic peptides. Computer simulations, in particular temperature replica exchange molecular dynamics simulations (TREMDS), allow in-depth study of cyclic peptide conformations. Here, we discuss the background of TREMDS and their recent applications to the study of cyclic peptide conformations.

Secondary structure in peptides, such as helices, can be stabilized by introduction of a bimane group. This inherently fluorescent group simultaneously provides a tag to monitor the resulting peptidomimetic in biological assays.
