Call for expressions of interest, Editor-in-Chief or joint Editors-in-Chief of Pacific Conservation Biology 

Expressions of interest are invited for an Editor-in-Chief or joint Editors-in-Chief of CSIRO Publishing | Pacific Conservation Biology, commencing July 2025.

Pacific Conservation Biology is a well-regarded international journal that has been publishing since 1994. It is wholly owned and published by CSIRO Publishing. The journal focuses on conservation science and practice in the Pacific region, including Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands. It publishes original research, reviews, and perspectives that contribute to the understanding and management of biodiversity and conservation challenges.

The Editor-in-Chief position is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in shaping Pacific Conservation Biology, growing submissions and output, and enhancing the journal’s visibility and impact in the international research community. 

The Editor(s)-in-Chief will collaborate with CSIRO Publishing to refine the journal’s scope and implement a strategic vision to ensure long-term sustainability.

  • A strong record of high-quality peer-reviewed international publications and peer review
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills
  • Vision to drive Pacific Conservation Biology forward in the future
  • A global professional and academic network, particularly in conservation science across the Pacific region
  • Understanding of current and emerging publication models (e.g., open access, read-and-publish agreements)
  • An ability to dedicate requisite time to journal activities (approximately 10–12 hours per week)

The position may be held by a researcher based anywhere in the world. It could also be shared between two researchers from different disciplines or geographical locations working within the broad field of conservation science. Joint applications will be highly regarded.

The contract will be for an initial 3–4 year period, with the possibility of renewal. The successful applicant(s) will have access to a web-based submission and peer-review system, a dedicated Editorial Assistant, plus Marketing and Production services based in Melbourne. An honorarium and travel allowance are included.
