Abstract

The oil and gas industry in Australia is on the threshold of a massive step change—transitioning from an industry dominated by the delivery of seven mega capital projects into a world-class, reliable and efficient energy producer. This transformation will present a number of challenges and opportunities at all levels, beginning with the oil and gas companies themselves and impacting across many sectors including government agencies, regulatory bodies, local communities and the many local and global suppliers essential to the smooth and efficient functioning of the industry. Australian oil and gas companies will be required to shift their focus from capital project delivery to operating and maintaining complex facilities safely, optimising efficiency and striving for reliability in the production supply chain to meet LNG cargo commitments to their customers.

This presentation will explore the Australian service sector’s readiness in terms of capability and capacity to meet the future demands of the country’s production operations. Accenture will present the outcomes of research and interviews exploring the nature of the changes that will take place in the Australian oil and gas industry over the next five years, specifically analysing the impact on the service sector. We will compare the maturity and segmentation of the Australian service sector with other energy producing regions around the world and identify the opportunities for Australian operators and suppliers. We will present practical solutions and lessons learned for managing the transformation to a world-leading energy producer with a mature and reliable service sector.
