Abstract
The hydroptilid tribe Stactobiini (Trichoptera : Hydroptilinae : Hydroptilidae) is reported from New Guinea for the first time, with a total of 20 species in three genera. The new species include three in Chrysotrichia Schmid and four in Scelotrichia Ulmer, including an aberrant species, S. laitimtok, sp. nov., which lacks ocelli, and for which the otherwise accommodating diagnosis of Scelotrichia is modified. A new genus, Niuginitrichia, gen. nov., is erected for a group of 13 species also lacking ocelli, but sharing several other autapomorphies that are not present in S. laitimtok, sp. nov.; its probable relationships are discussed. All species descriptions are based on male genitalic features; where available, females, pupae, final-instar larvae and cases are described and notes on habitat included. Generic keys to adults and mature larvae are provided, as well as keys to species.https://doi.org/10.1071/IT9890817
