Abstract

The Bass Strait Upper Mantle Project was a seismic refraction experiment carried out to determine the crustal thickness variation under S .E. Australia. A time term solution for the mantle first arrival data indicates a considerable crustal thinning in Bass Strait. Crustal thickness estimates give values of 30-35 kms for Victoria and Tasmania and 20-25 kms for Bass Strait.
