Abstract
Attempts were made to measure the hindering of ionic and molecular diffusion in the pores of membrane filters, but it was found that available membranes are not suitable for this purpose. Polystyrene spheres in aqueous suspension were diffused through a thin membrane with right cylindrical pores, and hindering was found to take place in a way which does not agree with previous theory. A new theory is proposed, based on absolute reaction rates.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9720695
