NATURAL GAS—THE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE MARKET

Abstract

Australia is a nation rich in natural gas resources.

Natural gas markets, historically, have been developed following a major discovery nearby. Natural gas is now firmly entrenched as a major primary fuel in a competitive and dynamic market.

Marketing theory indicates that sales of a product can be broken into three phases: introduction-growth, maturity, and decline.

The Australian natural gas markets are presently entering the mature phase. To sustain the economic incentive for further exploration, natural gas explorers and producers need to become more aware of the market environment in which they compete. Development of new markets and technology today will ensure the need for gas exploration in the future.
