Abstract
The Centre's growing interest in social implications of oceanography has found a welcome outlet in a field study of the transport processes on the continental shelf in Bass Strait, using the B.H.P. - Esso operating platforms as base. The first few months of this work, its results and the lessons learnt from it are described with some detail. It is shown that extensive observations with sophisticated equipment would permit exploratory studies at the planning stage of industrial, including nuclear power plants, sewerage outlets, shipping terminals, etc., with a view to ensuring conservation of the environment.https://doi.org/10.1071/AJ69018
