Engineering information across the lifecycle of LNG assets

Abstract

Capital decision making in LNG is complex both on a commercial level and on a technical level. Managing the engineering and design process is critical to a successful project. This presentation looks at the technology and framework for making those decisions based on sound engineering modelling, estimating and sizing of equipment from the conceptual design into operations. Modelling of the LNG operating processes is a key to maximum throughput at the lowest cost. This overview describes real examples of closed-loop control of the liquefaction process, dynamic simulation of re-gasification for safety and design efficiencies. It will cover how it is done and benefits achieved.

Ron Beck has 35 years experience in the assessment, analysis, design and marketing of software solutions for the process industries. He has been involved in architectural design of integrated solutions for global engineering organisations, facility-wide engineering information system and similar projects. His experience has spanned work in Europe, Asia and the US. He has specifically worked with plant-wide document management, asset information solutions, and FEED design solutions as well as enhanced oil recovery and offshore design. He is now a marketing manager at AspenTech for their basic engineering and capital cost estimating solution sets.

Shailesh Sakarkar has 14 years of experience that encompasses working at an operating refinery, a consultancy company, a technical marketing position and conducting training on engineering simulation software. He is currently working at Aspen Technology, Inc. as senior manager, business consulting and is based in India. His past experience includes working at Reliance, Jamnagar; Chemtex Engineering, Mumbai; and Onward Technologies Ltd. at Pune.Shailesh has attained a Bachelor of Technology in chemical engineering from Laxminarayan Institute of Technology.
