Alf Standen is a highly experienced consultant in all aspects of competency development and demonstration and is regarded as one of the best in his field in Australia. He has been designing and developing competency systems for high risk industries and assisting organisations with competency matters for more than 30 years. Recently he was active in the review of the chemical, hydrocarbons and oil refining industry’s national training package. In particular he likes working with people who need to demonstrate their competence over time to meet third party requirements. Alf is one of the founders of the Australian competency system and is widely experienced in linking demonstration of competence to operating systems including incident response and emergency management systems. His advice is frequently sought by both private and government organisations at the State and national level. As a director and consulting partner in Corporate Incident Management Associates Pty Ltd Alf has had a significant influence on the way organisations think about demonstrating the competence of their personnel to meet the ‘on this plant, on this site’ requirements of industry regulators.
