Abstract
Unlike conventional hoop traps used to catch freshwater turtles, this new design is largely escape-proof. Attracted by bait, turtles enter via a conventional funnel-shaped entrance and exit into a second compartment through a no-return swing door. In comparison with a conventional hoop trap, this new design substantially improved capture rates and reduced labour hours involved in checking traps. Traps are collapsible and can be erected on site.https://doi.org/10.1071/WR9920443
