Abstract
For over 40 years, the names Sesbania benthamiana Domin, S. javanica Miq. and S. sesban (L.) Merr. have been applied to Australian plant specimens. A review of the types assigned to these taxa has resolved that the names S. javanica Miq. and S. sesban (L.) Merr. do not apply to species native to Australia and S. benthamiana has been misapplied. The name S. burbidgei is proposed to account for specimens previously identified as S. sesban and S. muelleri is proposed to account for specimens previously assigned as S. benthamiana. The name S. benthamiana is reapplied to material previously known as S. javanica.
