Thermal Expansion of InBi at Low Temperatures

Abstract

Linear thermal expansions from 2 to 80 K are reported for a single crystal of tetragonal InBi. In the more compressible direction, parallel to the tetrad axis, DCII is negative except between 6 and 10 K. In the harder basal plane, DC.L is positive. This unusual behaviour confirms earlier observations between 100 and 250 K. The volume coefficient is positive at all temperatures and leads to values of y - 1 for the Griineisen parameter above 4 K.
