Abstract

Kimblaeus (type-species Kimblaeus bassensis, sp. nov.) is described from Bass Strait and the Tasman Sea. The genus is characterized by continuous superior body ridges, confluent lateral trunk and inferior tail ridges, the presence of dorsal and pectoral fins, an eight-rayed caudal fin and the absence of the anal fin. A key to the 21 pipefish genera with continuous superior ridges is included.
