Expression of Interest

Call for expressions of interest, Editor-in-Chief or joint Editors-in-Chief of Marine and Freshwater Research

Expressions of interest are invited for an Editor-in-Chief or joint Editors-in-Chief of CSIRO PUBLISHING | Marine and Freshwater Research commencing March, 2025. 

Marine and Freshwater Research is a well-regarded international journal in the field of aquatic science that has been publishing since 1948. It is wholly owned and published by CSIRO Publishing in Melbourne. The journal currently publishes original research and critical reviews that demonstrate a conceptual advance to any aspect of aquatic science. 

The Editor-in-Chief position is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in shaping Marine and Freshwater Research, to grow submissions and output, and enhance the journal’s visibility and impact in the international research community. 

The Editor(s)-in-Chief will collaborate with CSIRO Publishing to refine the journal’s scope to shape and implement a strategic vision to ensure long-term sustainability.

  • Vision to drive Marine and Freshwater Research forward in the future
  • Global professional and academic network of contacts across the academic landscape
  • Understanding of current and emerging publication models (eg. Open access, read and publish agreements)
  • An ability to dedicate requisite time to journal activities (approximately 10-15 hours per week) 

The position may be held by a researcher based anywhere in the world; the position could be shared between two researchers from differing disciplines or geographical locations working in the broad field of aquatic sciences. Joint applications between two researchers will be highly regarded. 

The contract will be for an initial 3-4 year period, with the possibility of renewal. The successful applicant(s) will have access to a web-based submission and peer-review system, a dedicated Editorial Assistant plus Marketing and Production services that are all based in Melbourne. An honorarium and travel allowance are included.
