Patterns in equilibrium tide and the observed tide

Abstract

This paper illustrates some of the patterns which arise in the diurnal and semi-diurnal equilibrium tides. It discusses how these patterns are produced by the motions of the moon and sun relative to the earth and it also discusses how the patterns are distorted by the oceans to give the observed tides.
