Abstract

A new species-group, the Protohermes davidi species-group, of the dobsonfly genus Protohermes van der Weele is recognised. Five species belonging to the P. davidi species-group from China are described and illustrated, including one new species. The cladistic analysis infers that this species-group appears monophyletic and is divided into two subgroups. The distribution pattern of this species-group is presented, and its biogeography is also discussed.

Acknowledgments

First, we are very grateful to Mr Hao Huang (Qingdao) for giving us many specimens that he collected personally in western Yunnan. We are grateful to Mr Jian Yao (Beijing) and Dr Xiaolin Chen (Beijing) for lending many specimens from the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Science. Our thanks also go to Dr O. S. Flint, Jr (Washington, D.C.) and Dr N. D. Penny (California) for supplying many references. Finally, we are very indebted to Professor Chikun Yang (Beijing) and Mr Fasheng Li (Beijing) for their kind help in many ways.
