Abstract
Twenty-one species are newly described in the New Guinea Hydroptilidae, in two tribes, Hydroptilini and Orthotrichiini, subfamily Hydroptilinae. Recorded for the first time from New Guinea are Oxyethira Eaton, Hellyethira Neboiss, Ugandatrichia Mosely, and Tricholeiochiton Kloet & Hincks, as well as new species in Hydroptila Dalman and Orthotrichia Eaton. Interest centres on unique aspects of the fauna, including a new monotypic genus, Missitrichia, gen. nov., and several species in Hellyethira with unusually asymmetric male genitalia; relationships and possible origins of these and other components of the New Guinea Hydroptilidae are discussed. Keys to adult males and larvae are presented and a checklist of New Guinea hydroptilids is appended.https://doi.org/10.1071/IT9910487
