Relationships of the genera of Australian Strongylurini (Coleoptera : Cerambycidae)

Invertebrate Taxonomy 14(6) 863 - 870
Published: 2000

Abstract

The composition of the cerambycine tribe Strongylurini is investigated. Results from cladistic analyses indicate two clades that may together constitute a single higher clade that represents the tribe Strongylurini excluding Bebius Pascoe. The first clade comprises Phantissus McKeown, Exaeretiformis McKeown and Lygesis Pascoe and the other Opsidota Pascoe, Strongylurus Hope, Piesarthrius Hope and Aprosictus Pascoe. ‘Piesarthriusgearyi McKeown is clearly misplaced in Piesarthrius. The endophalli of Piesarthrius marginellus Hope and P. gearyi are illustrated for the first time and provide some useful characters for assessing phylogenetic relationships.
