Abstract

The greatest challenge facing oil and gas recovery in the future will be accessing reserves in even more difficult environments. Growth within the emerging subsea and LNG markets emphasis their ability to play a greater role in global energy supply; however, the extent will depend on continuing technological advancement. Based on the extensive market-orientated research and development programs carried out by Siemens, this presentation considers the present obstacles faced by operators within the subsea and LNG markets. Additionally, the presentation looks at the key enabling technologies presently available and those being developed, including:

Subsea Solutions:

  • Solutions for powering large subsea production and long step-outs, supplied from either onshore or offshore platforms.

  • Future subsea processing facilities and their ability to incorporate several electrically-driven pumps and gas compressors to transport oil and gas over very long distances.

  • Subsea Power Grids, able to operate in a depth of 3,000 m with total reliability withstanding extreme pressure and harsh temperatures.

LNG Solutions:

  • Next-generation LNG plants with all electric drive design developed from Siemens World Market Leading Boil-Off Gas Compressor technology.

  • Lower CO2 emissions/carbon footprint through efficient energy transfer.

  • Reduced operating costs and greater return on investment through higher equipment availability and reliability.

  • LNG compression trains tailored to match scale of LNG plant and fully expandable modular design.
