Martin Ferguson, MHR and Minister for Resources and Energy was first elected to Parliament for the Victorian seat of Batman in 1996. He is also Minister for Tourism. In Opposition he held these positions in the Shadow Ministry from 2006. He was Parliamentary Representative on the Council of the National Library of Australia from 1999 and served on a large number of House of Representatives Standing Committees, including Industry and Resources from 2006 to 2007. He was also a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Migration in the late 90s. He also held a large number of Parliamentary Party Positions when the Australian Labor Party was in Opposition. The Minister has a BEc (Hons, University of Sydney) and prior to becoming an MP, was deeply involved in the trade union movement having been General Secretary, Miscellaneous Workers’ Union (1984–90) and President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (1990–96). |
