Tim Brain graduated with a BSc (Geology) from the University of Queensland in 1981. He then worked for Marathon Petroleum Australia Ltd as a geologist and was involved in coal exploration in Queensland, Tasmania and Western Australia. He joined the Queensland Department of Mines in 1984 and was involved in coal geology, extractive industry, assessment of hydrocarbon potential of Queensland sedimentary basins and petroleum and geothermal policy and tenure administration. He is Senior Project Officer, Exploration Strategies, Queensland Department of Mines and Energy.

Ross Randall started work with the Queensland Department of Mines in 1982 as a cadet geological technician. He obtained a DipAppSc (Geology) in 1989, BAppSc (Hons, Geology) in 1996 and a Diploma of Frontline Management in 2005. He has been involved in geological mapping, mineral occurrence mapping, tenure administration and policy development. Ross is now a Senior Project Officer, Exploration Strategies, Queensland Department of Mines and Energy (DME).
