RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE ADAVALE AND DRUMMOND BASINS

Abstract

The main Drummond Basin and Adavale Basin sequences are of different ages. Devonian sediments that were deposited contemporaneously with the Adavale Group occur directly below the Permo-Triassic Galilee Basin sequence in Lake Galilee No. 1 well and also occur as erosional remnants below the predominantly Lower Carboniferous Drummond Group in the Drummond Basin area The w item limit of the Drummond Group is a lineament, the Belyando Feature comprising fault induced monoclines and fracture zones, and marked by linear steep gravity gradients and basalt vents. This lineament may be a major basement fracture which determined the western margin of the Drummond Basin. The Drummond Basin could then be interpreted as an. intermontane trough formed after development of the Adavale Basin had been completed.
