After graduating from Rice University in 1983, Alan Hirshberg began his career at Exxon Production Research Company, leading the company’s efforts at developing analytical methods for assessing the performance of downhole threaded connections for wellbore casing and tubing. He subsequently held a series of planning and production operations jobs in various Exxon affiliates before working on the merger of Exxon and Mobil. After the merger, Al moved to Norway to lead ExxonMobil’s Norwegian North Sea production operations as the company was starting up the Balder and Jotun FPSO’s. He then returned to Houston to lead ExxonMobil’s offshore and arctic research efforts before serving as Deepwater Africa Project Executive, with responsibility for ExxonMobil’s deepwater development work in Africa. Al is currently Vice President, Established Areas Projects, with responsibility for major projects in Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Venezuela, Nigeria, Chad and the U.S., at the ExxonMobil Development Company in Houston.
