In memoriam: Peter G. C. Campbell

Peter G. C. Campbell, an emeritus professor at the Institut national de la recherche–Eau, terre, environment (INRS-ETE) in Quebec, Canada, passed away in late January after a short but devastating illness. Peter was a member of the founding international advisory board that contributed to the launch and early growth of Environmental Chemistry in 2004, under the leadership of editor Dr Alison Green. Peter was a standout choice for the board based on his research leadership in the area of metals in the aquatic environment. He provided practical and thoughtful advice for solving editorial problems, and in editorial brainstorming sessions meetings gave constructive and supportive feedback that helped ideas become reality.

Peter was recognised in a tribute issue of the journal published in 2016, featuring papers by international colleagues and coinciding with his ‘retirement’. Such a word was not part of Peter’s vocabulary, and he was co-author of no less than 50 papers since then. His research reputation was acknowledged with the Founders Award, the highest award given by the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) in 2019.

He will be greatly missed.
