Abstract
Electrolytic Zinc Co. of Australasia Ltd. (EZ) began exploring at Cobar to fulfil a requirement of the company for base metal resources. It was one of many exploration initiatives undertaken for this purpose in Australia. Intermittent production of copper and gold from the Cobar field since its discovery in 1870 had made this area the largest source of copper in NSW and an important gold producer. Estimated ore reserves, including past production, totalled approximately 50 million tonnes. Zinc was exploited at the C.S.A. Mine; lead and zinc mineralisation was known to exist at many of the mines. The mining field and its potential extension constituted a good exploration target.https://doi.org/10.1071/EG9804005
