Mixed-Halide Iodoargentate Anions: the Structural Characterization of (Ag₃I₃X)^-, X= Cl, Br, I

Abstract

Single-crystal structure determinations are recorded for [Ph₃AsMe]⁺ [Ag₃I₃X]^-, X= Cl , Br, I. The three complexes are isomorphous with their recently recorded [Cu₃I₄]^- counterpart. They are also 'isomorphous' with the recently recorded [Ph₄P/As]⁺ [Ag₃I₄]^-, crystallizing in a monoclinic P2₁/c cell with a ≈ 12.5 , b ≈ 25.6, c ≈ 8.39Ǻ, β ≈ 109°, Z=4 formula units. The anion is an infinite polymer with three distinct metal and four distinct halide sites; the mixed stoichiometry is achieved by displacement of the peripheral halide species.
