The extraction of cobalt(II) from hydrochloric acid solutions by Aliquat 336^R dissolved in chloroform

Abstract

The extraction of cobalt(II) from 4M and 7M HCl involves the protonated form of the tetrachloro-cobaltate(II) ion, HCoCl₄^-. The equilibrium constants for the formation of the extracted complex, R₃MeN⁺ HCoCl₄-, are: log K₁₁ 7.07 and 8.48 for 4M and 7M HCl respectively.
