Abstract
Eight pyrrolizidine alkaloids have been identified in the leaves of Symphytum × uplandicum Nyman (Russian comfrey). They are echimidine (1), symphytine (2), lycopsamine (3), intermedine (4) and four new alkaloids, 7-acetyllycopsamine (5), 7-acetylintermedine (6), symlandine (7)(7-angelyl-9-viridiflorylretronecine) and uplandicine (8) (7-acetyl- 9-echimidinylretronecine).
