Abstract
Porphyrins with benzyl β-keto propionate side chains have been prepared by condensation of the appropriate porphyrin acid chloride with the magnesium chelate of the enolate form of benzyl hydrogen malonate. Intermediates of this class have been used in the synthesis of deoxophylloery-throaetioporphyrin and harderoporphyrin.
