Abstract

An absorber surface cooled with liquid nitrogen was used to control leaf temp- eratures down to -70°C. A precision of ± 0.13°C with less than 0.3°C variation over a 9 m2 area was attained. Since radiative cooling of the leaves was involved, the experimental frosting closely simulates the conditions during a natural frost. The results of a previous study where Eucalyptus plants were exposed to either convective cooling or natural frosts were confirmed by means of this new facility.
