Abstract
The Solanum aviculare complex is a group of secondary polyploids with a basic number n = 23 and an area that extends from New Guinea through Australla to New Zealand. Six species are recognized, all of them incompatible in crosses, and most of them vicarious ecologically. Two varieties are placed under S. aviculare, both being mutants at a single locus. The morphology of these taxa is compared, their types are located, and their distributions given.
The new names published are S, capsiciforme (Domin) Baylis comb. nov, and S. aviculare Forst. var. latifolium Baylis var. nov.
