Poppy seed meal (Papaver somniferum) as a protein source for growing pigs

Abstract

Oil-extracted poppy seed meal was examined for its value as a pig-feed protein source. The material had a crude protein content of 37.8% and digestible energy content of 13. 1 MJ/kg dry matter. A trial using growing pigs indicated the absence of any growth-depressing factors and, apart from a lower lysine content, a protein quality similar to that of soybean meal.
