The differential rate of seed development in Dwalganup and Geraldton varieties of subterranean clover

Abstract

The development of seed in the Dwalganup and Geraldton varieties of subterranean clover was studied in both buried and unburied burrs. Geraldton required six to nine less days after anthesis than did Dwalganup for the production of viable seed. Viable seed was produced two to four days earlier in buried than in unburied burrs. The magnitude of the differences between these varieties is influenced by the environmental conditions prevailing during seed development.
