Soyabeans for sub-tropical Queensland

Abstract

Over two hundred soyabean varieties have been introduced and tested in south-east Queensland since 1954. The varieties obtained from low to medium latitudes with a short-day flowering response and tolerance to tropical conditions, are the most promising in this environment. Several varieties introduced from Africa have out yielded the commercial variety, Nanda, and are suitable for commercial production in south-east Queensland. These include Hernon 49, Mamloxi and Avoyelles. Plant density increases 4 to 10 plants per square foot resulted in yield success.
