The Cinnamon Antechinus, Antechinus leo (Marsupialia: Dasyuridae), a new species from the vine-forests of Cape York Peninsula.

Abstract

Antechinus leo sp. nov., from Buthen Buthen, Cape York Peninsula is described. This species most closely resembles A. flavipes (Waterhouse) yet differs from it in colour, supratragal, dental and basicranial morphology. It is the only mammal endemic to Cape York Peninsula and is the only Antechinus known to occur in that area.
