Society Publishing
CSIRO Publishing is Australia's leading science publisher of books, peer-reviewed journals and magazines.
As an editorially independent business unit within the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) [external link], we are proudly part of the research community.
Our peer-reviewed journals are published in partnership with The Australian Academy of Science [external link] and a range of society partners.
Read more about our business, our products, values and charter on our About Us page.
Our journey began in 1948 with the CSIRO scholarly journals program, and CSIRO Publishing was established as a standalone imprint in 1995.
We publish 30 journals across fields such as physical sciences, agriculture, health, and the environment. 15 of our journals are in partnership with professional societies. Our Open Access portfolio includes eight journals, with a strategic plan to transition more titles to Open Access.
CSIRO Publishing is a proud member of several professional societies, including the International Association of STM Publishers [external link], the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers [external link], and a signatory to the UN Sustainable Development Goals Publishers Compact [external link]. Our membership in the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) [external link] underscores our commitment to the highest ethical standards in publishing.
Why our authors publish with us:
- High visibility and impact for their research
- Open Access options available under a Creative Commons licence
- Quality author care, copy editing and production standards
- Rigorous and trustworthy peer review from experts in their field
- We are a not-for-profit publisher that is part of the scientific community
- Supported by 75 years of scholarly publishing experience
A Seamless Transition
We can guarantee a seamless transition and follow the requirements set out by the NISO Transfer Code of Practice, ensuring the move of your journal to CSIRO Publishing is a smooth and stress-free experience.
We can also support you to refresh the branding of your journal, and can provide assistance to develop launch communications for your channels.
Personalised Support
Fostering personal relationships in publishing partnerships is more crucial than ever in an increasingly complex academic publishing landscape.
We facilitate this tailored approach by assigning a dedicated Journal Manager who will serve as the primary point of contact for you and your editors. Your Journal Manager will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and the wider editorial board to discuss and develop a strategy for your journal that supports your society's primary objectives and ensures future success.
Holistic Journal Development
Together with colleagues from editorial, production, marketing, and sales, your Journal Manager will work with you on:
- Tailoring plans for growth strategies
- Tracking and understanding current trends in publishing
- Developing international reach and community
These efforts ensure the comprehensive and holistic development of your journal.
