The Tipulidae (Diptera) of Australia. X. The genus Leptotarsus Guérin; the subgenus Macromastix Osten-Sacken*

Abstract

The subgenus Macromastix Osten-Sacken, 1886, of the genus Leptotarsus Guérin, 1838, is revised. Of the previously known species, 26 are redescribed and two are treated as synonyms. Seven new species are described: L. barringtoniensis, L. brisbaneiensis, L. collessi, L. garettensis, L. tamborineiensis, L. pseudotortilis and L. pseudoaurantioceps. New synonymies: M. (M.) clarkiana Alexander, M. brevipetiolata and M. aurantioceps subnitida Alexander.
