Abstract

The Darwin area is briefly described with an outline of topography, climate and habitats. The birds are described in a systematic list of 254 species. Of these Tringa totanus and Limnodromus semipalmatus are recorded for the first time in Australia, and Fregata minor, Anas querquedula, Calidris melanotos, C. subminata, Hirundo rustica have not been recorded in the Northern Territory before. Status, distribution and points of identification are given from observations made between 1967 and 1971.
