Abstract

This plenary session explores the technologies that are driving the industry’s transformation, with a focus on the key technologies so crucial to our emissions reduction journey – including carbon capture, use and storage and hydrogen. The industry has a long and proud history of developing and applying technology and innovation to improve safety, performance and deliver cleaner and the most cost competitive energy to consumers around the world.

David Fallon is the General Manager of Energy Transition for Chevron Australia located in Perth, Western Australia. Key responsibilities of the Energy Transition team include managing efforts to reduce the carbon intensity of Chevron Australia’s assets and working collaboratively with Chevron’s New Energies organisation to evaluate and progress new lower carbon business opportunities in Australia. David joined Chevron Australia in 2010 as a Facilities Engineer before moving into a variety of other positions. Prior to joining Chevron, David worked in operational and engineering roles for Woodside in Karratha and Perth and Shell in Sydney. David holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) from the University of Queensland.

Adam Goff is the Senior Vice President of Strategy at 8 Rivers, a firm which invents and commercialises sustainable infrastructure technology. 8 Rivers has invented world leading technologies across clean power, clean hydrogen, and carbon removal, and has raised over $500M to advance its technologies. Adam leads strategy and strategic projects at 8 Rivers and founded its Calcite carbon removal business. Adam has a degree from Yale University and was formerly Chief of Staff at ClearPath Foundation.

Azad Hessamodini became Executive President of Wood’s Consulting business in June 2022. Based in London, he leads over 4000 professionals who provide technical and digital advisory solutions in areas including decarbonisation, hydrogen, carbon capture, asset optimisation and digital solutions. Azad has over 25 years’ international experience in the construction, energy, management consulting, mining services and private equity sectors. He joined Wood in 2011 and initially led the APAC subsea field developments, deep water engineering and asset integrity divisions before moving into the growth and development function. Most recently, he served as President of Growth and Development for Wood's Consulting business where he was responsible for development and implementation of growth strategies, and business planning globally. Azad has a bachelor’s degree (Hons) in civil and structural engineering and an MBA from the University of Western Australia.

Irtiza was appointed as the President for Asia Pacific for Low Carbon Solutions in July 2022. He is responsible for developing ExxonMobil's lower-emission portfolio in Asia Pacific with the objective of creating long-term shareholder value and support global emissions reduction efforts. Irtiza is also the President for ExxonMobil Indonesia and he has held this role since 2020. Irtiza joined ExxonMobil in 2006 in Houston, Texas, and has held a variety of management positions within ExxonMobil, with having worked in Americas, Europe, Russia, Caspian, Middle East and Asia Pacific regions. His area of primary expertise has been in business development and commercial structuring while also having held roles in ExxonMobil's Refining business, upstream production, corporate finance, strategic planning and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining ExxonMobil, he worked in the industrial healthcare and banking sectors. Irtiza holds a degree in Engineering and an MBA. He is married with two daughters. Irtiza enjoys spending time with family and playing golf.

Kathy Xitong Gao is a Senior Associate with BNEF based in Hong Kong. She leads the BNEF’s hydrogen coverage in the APAC region with a focus on China. She leads the team’s coverage on hydrogen export, demand, and company activities. She has spoken in lots of international conferences, including the Indonesia Net Zero Summit and the ASEAN Energy Business Forum 2022. Before joining the hydrogen team, she was in the Technology & Innovation team with BNEF covering digital technologies and early-stage climate technologies. Kathy holds a Master degree in Energy Resource and Environment from Johns Hopkins SAIS in Washington DC and a Bachelor in International political economy from Renmin University in Beijing. Before joining BNEF she had project finance experience in a solar development company and a battery startup in the US.

Ali Moore has more than 30 years experience as a journalist and broadcaster, working for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Australia’s Nine Network, and for the BBC’s global news network, based in Singapore. She has covered major news and current affairs events across the region, including as the ABC’s China Correspondent in Beijing. Ali is a former Vice-Chancellor's Fellow at the University of Melbourne, producing and presenting the 'This is Not A Drill' series of hypotheticals with Asialink, the ABC and the Wheeler Centre. She is now a freelance broadcaster and journalist, and program host on ABC Radio Melbourne.
