Abstract

CEOs and line managers are keenly aware of the importance of effective health and safety management in major hazard industries such as oil and gas and their moral and legal accountability for health and safety at work. This speaker presents a “users guide” to leaders describing how to select, scope, direct and monitor the health and safety function in order to ensure the “health” of the health and safety function, ensure risks are effectively identified and prioritised, monitor implementation and progress and ensure events and trends are appropriately flagged and actioned. The speaker seeks to provide leaders with a self-check capability to ensure obligations are discharged.

Jim McQueenie is the senior health, safety and security manager for the Woodsides Browse project. He is a professional of safety, quality, environment and competence with more than 20 years of experience in the international oil and gas industry in both operating and contracting sides of the business.

He has successfully driven improvement in safety performance, recognised by consecutive Oil and Gas Industry Sector Awards from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). Jim was based in Aberdeen, with roles taking him to most of the countries in the oil patch, before moving to Perth in 2008. Member: the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Chartered Member).
