Abstract
The effects of seed treatment with Erex (a triadimefon-lindane fungicide and insecticide, Bayer Australia Ltd, Botany, N.S.W.) on the germination, seedling morphology and emergence of three wheat (Tritium aestivum) cultivars were studied in soil in a controlled environment. Erex had no effect on germination, but at all rates of application (75, 150,450 g/100 kg) it delayed emergence. The cultivar Banks was particularly affected. The lengths of the coleoptile, first true leaf, and subcrown internode were shorter in seed- lings treated with Erex. The percentage of seedlings which failed to emerge was correlated with coleoptile length. Banks had the shortest coleoptile in both treated and untreated seedlings and this appeared to explain its greater sensitivity to Erex.Keywords: nontarget effects; insecticides; Triadimefon; lindane; effects; Wheat; pesticides; fungicides; germination; Seed treatment; seed germination; seedlings; cereals; agricultural entomology; plant pathology; Triticum aestivum; Triticum; Australia; New South Wales; Erex;
