Abstract
Brahman x Jersey and Friesian calves were double-suckled on Jersey cows to 250 days of age and their growth rates and carcase production were compared. There was no difference in liveweight gain to slaughter between the two breed types. The Brahman x Jersey calves had a higher dressing percentage (61.0 per cent vs. 54.6 per cent), produced fatter carcases with less bone and lean than the Friesians. There was no difference in carcase quality when cuts off the round of each animal were assessed organoleptically.https://doi.org/10.1071/EA9780510
