Abstract
Microscopic examination of buds in positions one to eight on Zante Currant (Vitis vinifera) bearers showed that buds three to eight contained more inflorescence primordia than buds one and two. In a second experiment fruit was harvested by bud position from bearers of one to eight buds in length. When the bearer length was three buds or more, the proximal buds were lower yielding than the distal ones. In a third experiment dry weight yield over two seasons was not adversely affected by pruning to 14-bud bearers, and pruning method had no effect on optimum harvest date.
