Abstract
Batches of buffel grass seeds, which had been sown near Alice Springs, N.T. at the usual depth of about one inch, were recovered at increasing intervals. Germination percentages were compared with those of seeds stored in the laboratory for the same periods. At the time of sowing 30 per cent germination was obtained. This level was maintained in the soil for eight months, followed by, a sharp decline to 10 per cent which was maintained for another two years. Stored seed showed an increase to 94 per cent germination in the 8 to 18 month period. The implications are discussed in relation to seed dormancy.https://doi.org/10.1071/EA9630326
