Cobalt was central to the emergence of coordination chemistry as a discipline distinct from organic chemistry and remains one of the most intensely investigated transition elements with its compounds exhibiting a wide variety of colours, reactivity, oxidation states, and structures.
CH18449Theoretical Study of Phenothiazine Organic Dyes with Different Spacers for Dye-Sensitised Solar Cells
Six organic dyes have been studied by density functional theory (DFT). The electron-acceptor group is the cyanoacrylic acid unit for all sensitisers, the electron-donor unit is a phenothiazine (PTZ) fragment substituted by an ethynyl-pyrene unit, and the π-linker was varied.
CH18175Highly Crystalline Zinc Oxide/Mesoporous Hollow Silica Composites Synthesized at Low Temperature for the Photocatalytic Degradation of Sodium Dodecylbenzenesulfonate
Highly crystalline ZnO/mesoporous hollow silica sphere (MHSS) composites are successfully synthesized through an impregnation method at a low temperature of 323 K. The composites exhibit a high photocatalytic activity towards sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate degradation under UV irradiation. The high crystallinity and monodispersity of a high amount of ZnO on MHSS contribute to the excellent photocatalytic activity.
CH18508Electronic Spectra of the Triacetylene Cation (HC6H+) and Protonated Triacetylene (HC6H2+) Tagged with Ar
Polyacetylene cations play an important role in combustion and in the chemistry of planetary atmospheres and interstellar clouds, where they have been suspected as carriers of the diffuse interstellar bands. Here we present gas-phase electronic spectra of the triacetylene cation and protonated triacetylene by photodissociation of mass-selected, argon-tagged ions in a tandem mass spectrometer.
CH18432Graphene–Magnetic Spinel Ferrite Nanocomposite: Facile Synthesis and Excellent Photocatalytic Performance
In this paper, the spinel ferrite structured ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles anchored on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sheets have been prepared via a facile hydrothermal method combined with a solvothermal approach. The obtained ZnFe2O4/rGO nanocomposites tackle the aggregation of pure ZnFe2O4 and enhance the utilisation of sunlight.
CH18537Friedel–Crafts Chemistry. Part 53. Divergent and Diversity-Oriented Synthesis of Condensed Indole Scaffolds via Friedel–Crafts Ring Closure Approach
Condensed indoles have attracted considerable attention due to their various applications in pharmaceutical and synthetic chemistry. Herein we describe a concise method for the synthesis of pentacyclic indolo-fused N-heterocyclic ring systems. The described chemistry demonstrates the significance of Friedel–Crafts ring closure reactions in the construction of complex heterocyclic scaffolds.
CH18512Effect of Rhenium(I) Complexation on Aza-Michael Additions to 5-Amino-1,10-Phenanthroline with [18F]Ethenesulfonyl Fluoride towards PET Optical Tracer Development
The perturbation caused by rhenium(i) on the nucleophilicity of a Michael donor is reported in this study, with greater radiochemical yields attributed to conjugation of the free ligand with an [18F]ethenesulfonyl fluoride prosthetic group than with the metal complex. DFT analyses were performed towards elucidating the reaction mechanism, alongside photophysical analyses, which provide the basis for further development of rhenium(i)-based PET optical tracers.
CH18446Influence of Surfactant on the Phase Transformation of Bi2O3 and its Photocatalytic Activity
Bismuth oxide (Bi2O3) was synthesised by a surfactant assisted sol–gel technique. The evolution of α and β crystalline phases was observed using different surfactants. The cetyltrimethylammonium bromide mediated sol–gel technique led to the formation of β-Bi2O3. Materials with a bandgap as low as 2.03 eV were obtained. The β-Bi2O3 showed good photocatalytic activity for Rhodamine B using visible light.
CH18532Synthetic Studies on the Marine-Derived Sesquiterpene (+)-Viridianol: Divergent Behaviour of Two Structurally Related, Ring-Fused Cyclopropanes Under the Same Hydrogenolytic Conditions
Contrary to expectations engendered by a model study, the target sesquiterepene (+)-viridianol (1) is only the minor product arising from the hydrogenolysis of the ring-fused cyclopropane 13.
CH18523Synthesis and Structural Investigation of Some Electron-Rich Nitroaromatics
The structural effects associated with delocalization of electron density from a varying number of amine substituents onto the nitro group in nitrobenzene derivatives is demonstrated from low temperature crystal structures.
