Abstract
3-Hydroxy-2-methyl-4-phenylisoxazol-5(2H)-one, 3-hydroxy-2,4-diphenylisoxazol-5(2H)-one and phenyldisic acid have been photolysed at 254 nm in hydroxylic solvents. By comparison of the respective products with those obtained from 3-methoxy-4-phenylisoxazol- 5(2H)-one, 5-methoxy-4-phenylisoxazol-3(2H)-one and 5(3)-hydroxy-2,2-dimethyl-3(5)-oxo-4-phenyldihydroisoxazolium hydroxide, it is apparent that the disic acids photolyse independently from the 3-hydroxy 5-one, the 5-hydroxy 3-one and the zwitterion tautomers. Novel photochemical pathways for these processes are suggested.
