Abstract

A second unsuccessful attempt to prepare the unsymmetrically substituted porphyrin (IV) is reported. The intermediate (II) required for, the East Side was prepared and found to be extremely unstable. The dipyrromethene (I) required for the West Side was prepared (as a derivative) in such small yield that the projected synthesis (I → IV) was abandoned.
