Abstract
The identity of the product formed by the reaction of 2,2'-dichlorodiethyl sulphide with potassium cyanide has been established by the synthesis of ethylene bis-2-carboxyethyl sulphide and its methyl ester. The preparation of bischloromethyl sulphide has been improved and bischloromethyl disulphide prepared as a by-product. Bischloromethyl sulphide undergoes a self-condensation action when heated with methanolic potassium cyanide solution.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9530152
