Abstract
The wood anatomy of 13 species of Leptospermum is described. Ontogenetic changes in vessel length are also, examined. The taxonomic significance of the wood anatomy, particularly in relation to Bentham's classification of Leptospermum, is discussed.
The classification of Leptospermum as mesomorphic on the basis of Carlquist's indices is considered incorrect as its narrow, short and numerous vessels indicate it to be xeromorphic.
